Since I skipped writing January favorites there have been many products that accumulated. As with my previous blog posts, I decided to separate beauty and non-beauty favorites into separate blog posts.
Starting off with face base products, the primer that stood out the most has been Smashbox Photo Finish Pore Minimizing. I apply this primer on the T-zone where I have enlarged pores and for the rest of the face, I like to use my all time favorite Rimmel Fix & Perfect Pro primer that keeps my skin hydrated and smooth.
The past two months I have been switching out my foundations. I’ve tried Rimmel Match Perfection foundation in the past and I remember I like it so I thought I would give it another try and see how it will look on my skin now. I like the fact that you can build the coverage and it looks very natural. The past couple of weeks I’ve been obsessed with glowing skin and to achieve the look I mixture of Loreal Infallible Pro-Glow and Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer. The reason I started mixing these two products is because my skin has been darker and Loreal Infallible foundation that I have in my collection is a little light for my skin tone. I find that using Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer on its own my skin gets a little too oily throughout the day but mixing these two products makes the skin look healthy.
Last year I reviewed Milani Conceal and Perfect foundation and I absolutely loved using the product in the summer. Since I am naturally very fair the lightest shade of the foundations was too dark for me and during one of the makeup clear outs I got rid of it. Lately, I’ve been thinking about how much I’ve missed Milani foundation and luckily I’ve been using fake tan so I can get away with using the product. I am very happy to have this product back in my life but wish that Milani would come out with lighter, neutral shades.
When it comes to concealer I’ve been sticking with the products that I know work well but while waiting in line at Ulta I noticed that they are selling miniature size Urban Decay Naked Skin concealer and before purchase full-size product I would try the miniature. The concealer feels light on the skin while covering any darkness under the eyes. Unlike many other concealers, the Urban Decay concealer does not crease. The one thing that can bother some people is that it has a distinctive chemical scent.
To ensure makeup would last through long hours I used Urban Decay All Nighter makeup setting spray. In the past year, I’ve tried many affordable setting sprays that would be an alternative to Urban Decay but none of them could live up to the All Nighter. I find that the travel size bottle lasts me well over 3 months because unlike with other setting sprays, I only need two sprays to set the makeup.
A blush that captured my heart has been Milani Baked Blush in the shade 05 Luminoso. The YouTube community have been obsessed with this blush but I wasn’t interested in trying the product until one of my favorite blogger Lydia Elise Millen mentioned that she loves this blush and her makeup always look flawless. Peachy toned blushes are not my first choice but this blush shade gives my skin beautiful wash of color that suits my skin tone perfectly.
When I first purchased Benefit Dallas blush, I never could have imagined that I would love it as much as I do. The dusty rose color gives the skin a sun-kissed look.
In the past several months I’ve been stepping away from cool toned highlighters to bronze tones. I mentioned in one of my previous posts that I picked up Becca highlighter kit which contained their miniature size powder and liquid highlighters in the shade Opal. Since the tone of this highlighter is darker than I would normally use I was worried that it would look strange on my skin tone but fortunately it worked out well. Before trying these products I heard from numerous beauty bloggers that the powder often cracks and the same thing happened to my highlighter. In order for the product not to crumble even more, I placed a cotton disc in the compact.
Moving on to the eyes the first palette I wanted to mention is Too Faced Chocolate Bar. I remember when the palette was first released and I dreamed of adding it to my makeup collection. Whenever I think about a product that I want to purchase long after noticing it, in most cases it means that I would love the product and use it daily. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case with Chocolate Bar palette. Looking through my makeup collection I thought that I would give it another go and if I will still choose something else to use besides this product then I need to find it a better home. Through time I found that I start reaching for this palette more and more often and now I’m glad that I have it in my collection.
Months ago I wrote a review on BH Cosmetics Carli Bybel palette that contains eyeshadows and highlighters and I still can put down the palette. The colors are put together perfectly in the palette and the quality is amazing.
For the holidays or any other special occasions, I think through my makeup look in advance. For Christmas, I wanted to have a very glittery eyeshadow look and I knew exactly which product I wanted to try. I picked up Urban Decay Moondust liquid eyeshadow in the shade Chem Trail. The glitter made the simple eye look extra special and there is no worry of glitter fallout. Ever since trying this product I like to use a small amount to make my makeup look a little more put together when I am going out.
Another eyeshadow that I’ve discovered during the holiday season is Loreal Infallible 24 Hour eyeshadow in the shade 557 Glistening Garnet. Initially, I picked up NYX eyeshadow pencil similar color for a more intense look, but when I was getting for an event for which I purchased these products I ran out of time and simply used Infallible eyeshadow all over the lid creating a berry smokey eye. Even without the base cream eyeshadow, the color was very intense. The hype for these eyeshadows have been around for a long time and I can see why they are so loved. The creamy texture glides across the lid with ease and the intensity of the color is exceptional.
The change of my hair color to purple ombre made me want to step out of my comfort zone and use eyeshadow colors that I don’t naturally gravitate toward. I loved using Urban Decay single eyeshadow in the shade Backfire. It’s a very beautiful color with which I like to create a smokey eye.
Since this blog post is already very long I decided to break it into two parts. In the second part, I will be talking about lip products, nail polishes, and more beauty products I’ve been enjoying through the month of February.
