Memory Lane of 2017

December 30, 2017

In just a few short days we will saying goodbye to 2017 and will be welcoming a new year. A new year will be an opportunity for change, learning, growing, and creating new memories. Before stepping into a new year I wanted to look back at 2017 and all the things that it brought with it. With age, I learned how fast life goes by and how important it is to remember all the wonderful things that happen to us.  For me, 2017 was one of the most memorable years. Even though the majority of my days were filled with work I took every opportunity to travel. This was a year that I got to check Los Angeles off of my bucket list when I went there for my birthday with my best friend. It was a trip that was truly unforgettable.

This was also a year that I turned 27. And strangely the reality that I am not in my early 20s anymore hit hard. It’s just as if it was yesterday that I was celebrating my 21st birthday and 27 seemed to be so far away. But I made sure to make the best of this reality.

It was a year that I got to spend time with my family and friends. In spring while I was in California I went on a road trip with my brother and some friends and family. During that road trip, I witnessed my brother propose to his wonderful girlfriend and that is one of the moments that will be cherished forever.

One of my goals for 2017 was to spend as much time at the beach as possible and it was one of the goals that I was able to achieve. The sound of the waves and salty air makes all the stress and all the worry go away and gives me the energy to get through busy days.

Before Christmas,  I was in California and I went on a wonderful adventure to San Francisco. Although I’ve been in San Francisco many times before those visits were not as memorable as this one. I got to see a side of the city that I’ve never seen before and it was all done with my favorite person, my best friend.

It was a year of growth, happiness and a few heartaches. It brought some wonderful people to my life that changed it forever and drew away the ones that were not meant to be in my life.

Hope the new year brings you lots of love and happiness.

XOXO,

Kristina.

Hair 911

March 10, 2017

Like many other people, I started coloring my hair at a very young age and there were times where my hair had severe damage that required cutting it off. While I was in Germany I cut off about 3-4 inches of hair because it was so dry due to that the ends were breaking off. The biggest mistake that I made when packing for a trip was that I didn’t pack a hair mask with me and since my hair wasn’t in its best condition, the change of water and the weather made it worse.

After cutting my hair very short, I tried to take care of it to the best of my abilities and use fewer products that would damage it such as coloring. Although I cut down how often I colored my hair, it still got dry and instead of cutting it all off once again I established hair care routine that brought my hair back to life. I use hair masks about twice a week and always use a heat protecting products before using hot tools.

The product that proved to be the most effective is Loreal Total Repair Damage-Erasing Balm. The hair comes back to life after this hair mask and it gives it shine. I like to apply this product in the morning after washing my hair and leave it for about an hour or more and then simply rinse it off.

Another hair mask that is very affordable and works wonders is Palmer’s Coconut Oil Formula. The product contains Keratin protein, which strengthens and repairs the hair and coconut oil which hydrates the skin. For maximum results, I like to use this hair treatment overnight.

The newest hair treatment discovery is Confume Argan Gold Treatment which is 100% pure Argan oil. I found this product when I was searching for Korean beauty products on Amazon. It keeps the hair hydrated and gives it a beautiful shine.

Before styling my hair I spray Schwarzkopf Gliss Ultimate Repair conditioner spray. Through the years I’ve tried many hair care products and found that majority of them were not as effective as they are advertised. So when I purchased this product I wasn’t getting my hopes up, but I find that it works wonders on my hair. To top it all off I use a small amount oil on the ends of my hair. The oil that I am currently using is Hask Argan Oil Healing Shine Treatment. Since you need a very small amount of oil by the time you get to the bottom of the bottle the oil gets old and smells off, but with this small bottle, there won’t be any issues with oils getting old and it’s perfect for traveling.

Those are all the products that I wanted to share with you today that will rescue damaged hair. Hope you found this helpful. Let me know in the comments below which hair products are your must haves. Till next time!

Love,

Kristina.

First impressions: E.L.F. Aqua Collection

March 4, 2017

We all know Elf Cosmetics to be one of the most affordable brands on the drugstore market and although not all the products are good quality there are few that I absolutely love. Elf released their Aqua collection many months ago, but since I don’t monitor what the brand releases I was not aware of the collection. When the collection popped up at our local Wal-Mart I made sure to pick up few items to try.  I picked up a primer mist, a blush and bronzer duo palette, and liquid eyeshadow. There were also several shades of lip tints but I wasn’t interested in them.

Several high-end brands such as Smashbox have released primer mist and I haven’t seen any other drugstore brands do anything like that. So of course, I had to try this product when I found it. This is a water-based primer that contains cucumber, Vitamins B, and E. The fist thing that I would like to address is the spray. I found that you need to press very lightly otherwise the spray is too strong which results in the uneven product application and overall unpleasant feeling. I do love the packaging of the product, even though it’s an inexpensive product it looks elegant and high quality. I had my makeup on for 8 hours and I noticed that the foundation was slipping and sliding, products was settling into fine lines and at the end of the day, I looked very oily. I used Wet n Wild Photo Focus foundation which I used numerous time and it always lasted very well on the face and the product never moved around before. This primer mist was a fail and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

The second product that I wanted to try from the Aqua collection is Molten Liquid eyeshadow in the color Rose Gold. Elf cream eyeshadows are some of my favorite cream shadows and I had high expectations when trying this liquid eyeshadow. Just like the primer mist, the eyeshadow is infused with Vitamin E. The product is easy to blend and it stayed on through the long hours. Upon further research, I discovered that there are 6 shades in the collection which are available online.

Elf blush and bronzer duos have been in the spotlight for having significant resemblance in color and texture as Nars products. For Aqua collection Elf also released a blush and bronzer palette but the palette is unlike anything they have in their line.Online the duo is available in 3 different shades to fit any skin tone. Unfortunately, the only color that was available at our local drugstore was Bronzed Violet which is suitable for darker skin tone. I was caught off guard when I first opened the palette, the blush products were so bright and I had doubts that it would work with my skin tone. Since I’ve been using self-tanning products I was able to get away with using darker shades. The texture of this product is very unique,  it looks like a powder but when the product comes in contact with skin it almost melts. Initially, I wasn’t sure how to apply the product so I gently applied the product with fingers and blended in with a dampened sponge. Something to be careful of is the amount of pressure you apply to the tool you are blending in the product because it can be easy to move the foundation. For best result apply a small amount and gradually add more if needed. Colorwise the bronzer is warm toned but fortunately, it didn’t give my skin orange look.

Kristina.

February Beauty Favorites- Part 1

March 2, 2017

Since I skipped writing January favorites there have been many products that accumulated. As with my previous blog posts, I decided to separate beauty and non-beauty favorites into separate blog posts.

Starting off with face base products, the primer that stood out the most has been Smashbox Photo Finish Pore Minimizing. I apply this primer on the T-zone where I have enlarged pores and for the rest of the face, I like to use my all time favorite Rimmel Fix & Perfect Pro primer that keeps my skin hydrated and smooth.

The past two months I have been switching out my foundations. I’ve tried Rimmel Match Perfection foundation in the past and I remember I like it so I thought I would give it another try and see how it will look on my skin now. I like the fact that you can build the coverage and it looks very natural. The past couple of weeks I’ve been obsessed with glowing skin and to achieve the look I mixture of Loreal Infallible Pro-Glow and Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer. The reason I started mixing these two products is because my skin has been darker and Loreal Infallible foundation that I have in my collection is a little light for my skin tone. I find that using Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer on its own my skin gets a little too oily throughout the day but mixing these two products makes the skin look healthy.

Last year I reviewed Milani Conceal and Perfect foundation and I absolutely loved using the product in the summer. Since I am naturally very fair the lightest shade of the foundations was too dark for me and during one of the makeup clear outs I got rid of it. Lately, I’ve been thinking about how much I’ve missed Milani foundation and luckily I’ve been using fake tan so I can get away with using the product. I am very happy to have this product back in my life but wish that Milani would come out with lighter, neutral shades.

When it comes to concealer I’ve been sticking with the products that I know work well but while waiting in line at Ulta I noticed that they are selling miniature size Urban Decay Naked Skin concealer and before purchase full-size product I would try the miniature. The concealer feels light on the skin while covering any darkness under the eyes. Unlike many other concealers, the Urban Decay concealer does not crease. The one thing that can bother some people is that it has a distinctive chemical scent.

To ensure makeup would last through long hours I used Urban Decay All Nighter makeup setting spray. In the past year, I’ve tried many affordable setting sprays that would be an alternative to Urban Decay but none of them could live up to the All Nighter. I find that the travel size bottle lasts me well over 3 months because unlike with other setting sprays, I only need two sprays to set the makeup.

A blush that captured my heart has been Milani Baked Blush in the shade 05 Luminoso. The YouTube community have been obsessed with this blush but I wasn’t interested in trying the product until one of my favorite blogger Lydia Elise Millen mentioned that she loves this blush and her makeup always look flawless.  Peachy toned blushes are not my first choice but this blush shade gives my skin beautiful wash of color that suits my skin tone perfectly.

When I first purchased Benefit Dallas blush, I never could have imagined that I would love it as much as I do. The dusty rose color gives the skin a sun-kissed look.

In the past several months I’ve been stepping away from cool toned highlighters to bronze tones. I mentioned in one of my previous posts that I picked up Becca highlighter kit which contained their miniature size powder and liquid highlighters in the shade Opal. Since the tone of this highlighter is darker than I would normally use I was worried that it would look strange on my skin tone but fortunately it worked out well. Before trying these products I heard from numerous beauty bloggers that the powder often cracks and the same thing happened to my highlighter. In order for the product not to crumble even more, I placed a cotton disc in the compact.

Moving on to the eyes the first palette I wanted to mention is Too Faced Chocolate Bar. I remember when the palette was first released and I dreamed of adding it to my makeup collection. Whenever I think about a product that I want to purchase long after noticing it, in most cases it means that I would love the product and use it daily. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case with Chocolate Bar palette. Looking through my makeup collection I thought that I would give it another go and if I will still choose something else to use besides this product then I need to find it a better home. Through time I found that I start reaching for this palette more and more often and now I’m glad that I have it in my collection.

Months ago I wrote a review on BH Cosmetics Carli Bybel palette that contains eyeshadows and highlighters and I still can put down the palette. The colors are put together perfectly in the palette and the quality is amazing.

For the holidays or any other special occasions, I think through my makeup look in advance. For Christmas, I wanted to have a very glittery eyeshadow look and I knew exactly which product I wanted to try. I picked up Urban Decay Moondust liquid eyeshadow in the shade Chem Trail. The glitter made the simple eye look extra special and there is no worry of glitter fallout. Ever since trying this product I like to use a small amount to make my makeup look a little more put together when I am going out.

Another eyeshadow that I’ve discovered during the holiday season is Loreal Infallible 24 Hour eyeshadow in the shade 557 Glistening Garnet. Initially, I picked up NYX eyeshadow pencil similar color for a more intense look, but when I was getting for an event for which I purchased these products I ran out of time and simply used Infallible eyeshadow all over the lid creating a berry smokey eye. Even without the base cream eyeshadow, the color was very intense. The hype for these eyeshadows have been around for a long time and I can see why they are so loved. The creamy texture glides across the lid with ease and the intensity of the color is exceptional.

The change of my hair color to purple ombre made me want to step out of my comfort zone and use eyeshadow colors that I don’t naturally gravitate toward. I loved using Urban Decay single eyeshadow in the shade Backfire. It’s a very beautiful color with which I like to create a smokey eye.

Since this blog post is already very long I decided to break it into two parts. In the second part, I will be talking about lip products, nail polishes, and more beauty products I’ve been enjoying through the month of February.

What products have you been enjoying using? Let me know in the comments below.

Love,

Kristina.

New In Beauty

March 1, 2017

With the change of seasons, beauty brands are releasing many new products. With the overwhelming amount of products, it was difficult to only pick up few products.

Loreal Paris has been very busy with creating new products and I’ve been really impressed with their Infallible Total Cover Color Correcting Kit. The palette contains four shades to correct any imperfections on the skin. The creamy texture is very pigmented yet it doesn’t give the skin heavy look. There is also a concealer palette from Loreal that I was hoping to purchase but unfortunately, it was sold out.

Another product that Loreal has added to their Infallible collection is a Total Cover foundation. The claims for this product is that it’s a full coverage foundation that feels lightweight and is seamless on the skin. Loreal Infallible Pro-Glow and Pro-Matte foundations are my holy grail products and I was very excited to see what they came up with this time. Unfortunately, unlike the other Infallible foundations, the Total Cover was a fail.  As with any new foundation, I tried applying the product various ways. It was difficult to blend in the product and at the end, it looked patchy and broke apart from a little sign of oil. The claim for this foundation was that it’s weightless but I could feel the product on my face throughout the day and I just found it looked flat on the skin. So what I do with this product is mix it with other foundations when I need a fuller coverage or to lighten up the foundation.

We all have different eyelashes and very often I would find that the mascaras that have been raved about by many don’t necessarily work for me. The past year I’ve been sticking to the mascaras that have worked well in the past without giving a chance to some new mascaras. The flashy packaging of Maybelline The Colossal Big Shot have caught my eye and I wanted to see how it would work for me. Although I tried this mascara only a couple of times I can say that I fell in love with it from the first use. It looked as if I applied falls eyelashes and it stayed looking the same throughout the day.

Let me know if you’ve tried any of these new products and how they worked out for you.

Love,

Kristina.

Essence Eyebrow Gel Colour & Shape

February 25, 2017

In today’s blog post I wanted to share a quick review on some new products I’ve tried over the last weekend. If you’ve been following my blog for a while, then you would know how much I love Essence gel eyeliner and the quality of the products is spectacular yet very affordable.

Last week I went down to our local drugstore to pick up few products and noticed that Essence has released Eyebrow Gel Colour & Shape alongside with the eyebrow brush. I’ve tried Essence eyebrow products in the past and although they are not THE best on the market they still can get the job done.

The cream eyebrow products are great to use when you want eyebrows to be very precise and when you want them to last all day. When comparing this product to Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade, the Essence product is creamier and not as pigmented. To be honest, I expected this product to perform better than it does. I like the fact that I don’t need to worry about overdoing my eyebrows since the product is sheer but at the same time, I don’t like the fact that I need to use more product than I would normally use. One of the factors that I love about Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade is that once the product sets it will not move around and it can withstand any weather. With Essence Eyebrow Gel Colour & Shape you need to be very careful not to touch your eyebrows because even with a gentle touch you can remove the product. Another disappointing aspect about this product is that it only comes in one shade.

The brush for the eyebrows that Essence has released is very precise, which helps to make things look even and clean. Although it’s a nice brush I actually prefer to use Essence eyeliner brush just because it is even smaller and helps to perfect every little detail.

To finish off I wanted to mention that through the month of March I will be posting new posts five days a week.

Hope you enjoyed it!

Love,

Kristina.
